Recently the students at Avanzando Lectura Y Mathemáticas A Través Del Arte – Advanced Literacy and Math Through Art (ALMA) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin were treated to “Origin”, a workshop based on the work of Luz Angela Crawford.
ALMA is a partnership between the Bruce-Guadalupe Community School, a K3-8th Grade charter school operated by the United Community Center, the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Latino Arts, Inc.
“Luz Angela Crawford, a Latina artist, we will have the opportunity to study her original ceramic work in the classroom. Luz Angela is a ceramicist, students will learn that Luz is inspired by the indigenous people of her origin, Columbia.“
The aim of the ALAM project is to increase student achievement in literacy and math through the integration of culturally relevant, standards-based visual art experiences into reading, language arts, and math instruction.
